Tracking Systems

Tracking systems represent an immense upgrade in a photovoltaic system. A tracking system is essentially an extension or an additional system that is installed during the assembly of a photovoltaic system. The aim and purpose of a tracking system is a significant increase in the energy yield of the entire system. In many cases, the yield of a plant can be increased by the planning as well as the professional installation of a tracking system by one third of the overall performance or often even beyond.

To achieve this goal, the designers rely on mobile solar modules, which are usually individually controllable via the tracking system. In this case, the control takes place computer-assisted, whereby the data of a GPS system is used.

The advantage of a system that has a tracking system over conventional, so rigid photovoltaic systems, results from a simple physical fact. Photovoltaic modules work more efficiently the more direct the sun's rays strike the surface of the modules. Although a rigidly installed system has an ideal angle of incidence at lunchtime, in the morning and afternoon hours there is an angle of incidence that is clearly too flat. A tracking system, on the other hand, regularly places the modules in the optimum position. The angle of incidence thus remains in the optimum range. The performance of the entire photovoltaic system increases significantly.

While tracking systems have been an integral part of the system for large-scale and commercial projects from the very beginning, the use of tracking systems, especially in the case of private solar systems, has often not been considered in the past. There has recently been a trend reversal. Private customers are also increasingly recognizing the advantages and economic advantages of having a tracking system.
